1) What is OurSpace
- What is OurSpace about?
Ourspace is the first digital platform for young people where you can express your thoughts over politics, society, economy and debate them with politicians and peers across Europe.
- Who should get involved in OurSpace and why?
The OurSpace platform has been designed for young Europeans, whose active involvement in social and political issues can play a key role in our societies, bringing youth closer together. You are invited to participate!
- How can you benefit from OurSpace?
OurSpace allows you to connect and network with friends and make new international contacts. It enables you to discuss, comment, brainstorm and engage with others on new and existing EU and national policies. By sharing your ideas and knowledge about politics you can have a real influence decision-making process.
- Who are the creators of OurSpace and how the project is funded?
The project consortium consists of 9 partners from 6 European countries. Athens Technology Center SA (Greece), National Technical University of Athens (Greece), Google Ireland Limited (UK), Danube University Krems (Austria), 21c Consultancy Limited (UK), Fondation Euractiv (Belgium), Babel International (France), DUHA (Czech Republic) and British Youth Council (UK).
The project is funded by the European Commission’s The Information and Communication Technologies Policy Support Programme (ICT PSP). More detailed information can be found on http://www.ep-ourspace.eu.
- How to contact OurSpace?
You can contact us either through the “Give us your Feedback!” Contact form or by sending us an –email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
- What is OurSpace data protection policy?
OurSpace follow the terms and conditions that are common in 2.0 web applications and every precaution is taken to protect our users’ data. When users submit sensitive information via the website, all information is protected both online and off-line. However, we cannot control how other users and application providers use the content of the website. To get more information about OurSpace data protection policy, visit our Terms and Conditions section at the bottom of the website.
- What does OurSpace do with the content I put online?
Your content will be communicated to relevant public administration bodies, committees and eventually relevant EU institutions responsible for youth affairs who aim to influence the decision-making and policy process. In this way, we will ensure that young European citizen’s contribution will reach the decision-makers.
2) How to get involved
- How to register?
Just click the Register button at the top of the page. 1) If you have a Facebook account, then click at the Facebook login button. This will automatically synchronise your account settings and your Facebook login details will serve as your login details for OurSpace. 2) If you do not want to use your Facebook account or if you do not have one, press on the Register button, follow the instructions and create your OurSpace account.
- How to login?
If you registered using your Facebook account, click on the Facebook login button. If you registered manually, use your user name and password to login in.
- How to invite my Facebook friends?
In order to invite friends from Facebook, press on the My Friends button at the top of the page. This will bring up a list of people that you are friends with on Facebook and allow you to invite them to OurSpace.
3) How to use the platform
- How to propose a topic?
To propose a topic, press on the My Dashboard button at the top of the page. This will take you to your User dashboard. On the left hand side, you can see a section called ‘Your Toolkit’. Press the button ‘Suggest topic debate’ and you will be able to submit your topic, indicating the debate target and thematic area.
- How to write a topic?
To write a topic, you can simply follow the instructions below:
- Use the language of everyday speech, NOT that of academics, spokesmen, lawyers or bureaucrats.
- Do not be hectoring or arrogant.
- Do not try to be too didactic.
- Be challenging.
- Use short sentences and short words.
- Do not use intellectual or complicated EU notions and mechanisms.
- Do finish your entries with a question.
- Use active voice. The active voice will help give your entries some vitality and life.
- Try not to use very long headlines. The best way to write a good headline is to keep it simple and direct.
- Entries should not exceed 15 lines.
- Avoid acronyms.
- Insert compelling photographs into your posts, in order to retain your reader's attention.
- Provide relevant to the topic material such as links, documents etc. to support your proposed topic.
- How to join a debate?
To join a debate, press on the My Dashboard button at the top of the page. This will take you to your User dashboard. On the left hand side, you can see a section called ‘Your Toolkit’. Press the button ‘Join Open Debates’ and you will be able to join debates according to your area of interest.
- How to vote for a topic?
To vote for a topic, press on the My Dashboard button at the top of the page. This will take you to your User dashboard. On the left hand side, you can see a section called ‘Your Toolkit’. Press the button ‘Vote Best Proposal’, click on the proposal you wish to vote for and you will be able to indicate your preference by pressing on ‘Agree’ or ‘Disagree’.
- How to post your comment?
To post your comment, press on the My Dashboard button at the top of the page. This will take you to your User dashboard. On the left hand side, you can see a section called ‘Your Toolkit’. Press the button ‘Join Open Debates’ and you will see the full list of debates. Press on the debate that interests you, and then press the button called ‘Submit Reply’.
- How to view results and impact of the debates?
To view results and impact of debates, press on the My Dashboard button at the top of the page. This will take you to your User dashboard. On the left hand side, you can see a section called 'Your Toolkit'. Press the button ‘View Results’ and you will see the full list of debates that have reached the results phase. Press on the debate that interests you, and you will be able to see detailed results of the debate.
- How to download the Android App?
To download the Android App, go to Google Market Place via your mobile device. Use the search function by entering the search word ‘OurSpace’. Select the OurSpace app and press on ‘Download’. Please note that the App is not available for Apple.
- How to download the Facebook App?
To download the Android App, go to Google Market Place via your mobile device. Use the search function by entering the search word ‘Facebook’. Select the Facebook app and press on ‘Download’.
- How to download the iGoogle Gadget?
To download the iGoogle Gadget you need to sign in to your iGoogle account from the iGoogle web page. There is a button to your iGoogle web page with the choice to add a new iGoogle gadget. If you press that button you can search for iGoogle gadgets. Searching with keyword OurSpace in the search field will return a list of results including the OurSpace gadget. At this point you only have to select add it and the gadget will be added to your iGoogle page.
- What are points and levels?
Points and levels are a way of showing others how much you participate on the OurSpace platform, and how involved you have become in the process of making a difference. You earn points by replying to posts, voting proposals, making your own proposals and more!
- How can I translate debates in other languages?
If a debate is not in your language, the screen interface will provide you with an option ‘Translate to’. Press on it and select your language of choice.
- How to edit my profile?
In order to edit your profile, press on the My Dashboard button at the top of the page. In the middle of the screen next to your photo you will see a link called ‘Edit my Profile’ and make any necessary changes.
- How to use my dashboard and see my statistics?
Dashboard is the part of OurSpace that contains all the crucial information about the activities taken by the user. In order to see your statistics, you have to click on the My Dashboard button at the top of the page. Then in the top right corner you will be able to see a summary of your basic statistics.
- How to best navigate across the platform?
The best way to navigate across the platform is to use the buttons at the top of the OurSpace page: My Dashboard and Have Your Say. By clicking on these buttons, the user will get easy access to the key tools that allow joining or initiating debates, viewing results and connecting to other people with similar interests.
